What is the material for kids’ scooters?

Scooter is another new product form of skateboarding after the traditional skateboard. Scooter speed can reach 20 km / h. While it comes from the world’s most technologically advanced country, Japan, the scooter was invented by a German worker. It is a simple labor-saving sports machinery.

As early as several years ago, scooters have been introduced into our country, only then the price was too high, and few people are interested in them. Until recent years, its price has fallen more, as well as more and more manufacturers, produce this kind of product.

Nowadays, there are several categories of scooters available on the market, such as children’s scooters, electric scooters, four-wheeled skateboards, extreme cars, adult electric scooters, and so on.

The most important thing is that play scooters have a high degree of perception and courage, which is in line with the imagination like to challenge the taste of teenagers. Now extreme cars and skateboards have become a new generation of trendy sports products for young people, but are also gradually accepted and used by adults, becoming a new generation of mobility tools.

The most common scooters are made of aluminum, titanium, and steel. Scooters manufactured for younger children have 3 to 4 wheels (but the most common have 3 wheels) and are made of plastic. Also, such scooters cannot be folded.

Because of the wide variety of scooter products, the materials used are also relevant to the category. Below we present the materials separately according to the common categories of scooters.

The material analysis of the common scooters on the market

1. All-aluminum two-wheeled scooter

It is a large two-wheeled all-aluminum scooter, portable and foldable. The handle material is the handrail jacket which uses PVC thermoplastic elastomer. Polyvinyl chloride thermoplastic elastomer is an extension of soft PVC with properties close to those of rubber.

Compared to soft PVC, TPVC has the following advantages

    • Low permanent compression deformation
    • High rebound elasticity
    • High bending fatigue strength
    • Excellent wear resistance
    • High coloring freedom
    • Excellent ozone resistance
    • Excellent processability
    • Glossy products
    • Good performance

The frame and pedal material includes all aluminum alloy with no color loss and rust. it is lightweight, strong, and easy to carry.

2. Four-wheeled skateboard

Age of use: children/adults

It looks similar to four-wheeled skateboards and offers high-performance quality.

The main materials comprising the scooter are:

    • Bearings: ABEC-7 bearings, the
    • Wheels: High elasticity and wear-resistant PU wheels
    • Bracket: alloy bracket

The panel is mainly divided into two kinds of

a. Wood board – wood board skateboard shock absorption ability is weak and it can get easily cracked in water.

Professional board surface material is the best, it mainly consists of Canadian maple. It is generally made of many layers of maple and then professionally pressed into a thin wooden board. This board wood grain is uniform, tight, and has a certain degree of flexibility and toughness. It is also resistant to friction with good pressure. Since its service life is also very long, the general price of skateboards made of maple is more expensive.

b. PP plastic plate – A plastic skateboard has a high shock-absorbing ability. They are durable and water-resistant.

There are also some ordinary wood, composite materials, and carbon fiber made on skateboard surfaces. The performance of materials made of the board is much worse than the professional board surface.

But each has its characteristics, for different needs, wood and composite material. The surface texture of such skateboard surfaces is harder, suitable for playing some tricks action, while the carbon fiber shock effect is better, suitable for brush streets and walking.

3. Children’s three-wheeled scooter

Style: three-wheeled flash scooter, recommended for: under 6 years old, weight: 3.0KG (is currently the most commonly seen on the market children’s class scooters).

Frame Material: The frame material of most of the children’s scooters on the market is PP + PA. It is lightweight and comes with excellent hardness and mechanical properties. Moreover, this material is corrosion resistant, easy to color, smooth, and scratch-resistant.

Pedal material: The pedals are made of PVC polyvinyl chloride. It has good electrical insulation, chemical resistance, and good overall performance. Rigid PVC has high mechanical strength and is durable.

Handle: The handles are created with a high-quality TPR + iron and mid-pipe iron. It has a bottom stainless steel piece and aluminum steering.

Wheels mainly consist of PU and PVC materials. A majority of scooters available on the market are made up of PU, as it is durable and less noisy.

5.  Folding electric car

The adult electric scooter is now also increasingly popular, owing to its ease of use and convenience. Most scooters available on the market are made of aluminum, with a bit of carbon fiber, and thus are relatively lightweight.

Some scooters also use magnesium alloy in their manufacturing process. The weight of the magnesium alloy is 2/3 of aluminum alloy, with a higher hardness is higher.

It also has scratch resistance, rust, and UV protection.

Developed countries such as the United States, South Korea, and Japan, are developing magnesium alloy materials as they have great potential and prospects. This material has a low-carbon economy, making it environment-friendly.

The use of the magnesium alloy technology in the country has increased to achieve the degree of large-scale promotion, but can use the good enterprise is not much.

Tire material: PU wheel, with good wear resistance and aging resistance, high crack strength, elasticity, and toughness.

Handlebar material and pedal material: aluminum alloy, color does not rust. Light and strong, easy to carry, plasticity and corrosion resistant.

Frame material: high expansion steel frame.

Comprehensive analysis of the above

1) The jacket of the handrail should have the function of anti-slip,  sweat absorption, and anti-vibration. Considering these functions, the handrail jacket is designed using PVC thermoplastic elastomer. The reason for choosing PVC thermoplastic elastomer is that it has good weather resistance, aging resistance, oil resistance, ozone resistance, and chemical resistance. Also, PVC thermoplastic elastomers are inexpensive and meet the requirements of handrail jackets.

2)The material chosen for the skateboard bracket is aluminum and name-plated aluminum alloy, which is light in density and has high enough strength, plasticity, and corrosion resistance.

3) The pedal made of aluminum-magnesium alloy is lightweight, has excellent hardness, and mechanical properties, with good corrosion resistance. They are easy to color, have a smooth surface, and have scratch resistance.

4)Tire material: PU wheel, with good wear and aging resistance, high crack resistance, elasticity, and toughness.
